Entanglement

These 31 pastels represent a close look at natural abstract movement, texture, form and shape in
tree bark. Some of the close ups are of trees that are still living. Others are of trees and stumps in
various stages of deterioration. When I began collecting inspiration for the series, I was drawn to
the various colours. When you get up close and personal with trees you really see them differently.
You see scars and evidence of other life, such as moss, lichen, or holes created by birds, squirrels,
or insects. Bark scarred by fire. Bark that has been removed exposing the inner layers. Splits in the
bark that widen as the tree ages; revealing another layer. I hope the exhibition inspires you to look
more closely at trees when you are out hiking in the forest.
